Message to StudentsThe shocking aftermath of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Disaster she witnessed as a freshman in High School lead Satoko Oki to become a seismologist. She received her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Science at the University of Tokyo in 2006. Later, she became a Postdoctoral Fellow for Research Abroad of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the University of California, San Diego. She is now dedicated to outreach activities for earthquake education and disaster prevention. She is the co-author of Closing in on the Mega-Earthquake - What is happening on the Japanese Islands? with Dr. Kazuki Kouketsu, NHK Publishing, Inc. (2011) and the author of Listening to the Voice of our Earth, Kumon Publishing Co., Ltd. (2011).
